SmoothOps 365 was founded by Taiwo Akintunde, whose own path started outside the traditional IT route, into healthcare support work, then IT, then cloud engineering. That background shapes how we think about anyone building a UK IT career from a different starting point, wherever that starting point was, including many Indian, Filipino, Pakistani, Sri Lankan and other Asian professionals already living, working or training in the UK.

We want to be direct about something important: this page is about building real, demonstrable IT skills and presenting your existing experience the way UK employers actually evaluate it. It is not about visa or immigration eligibility, that is a separate matter, and one we are not qualified or authorised to advise on. Questions people ask

Do I need a UK degree to work in IT in the UK?

No. For entry-level UK IT support roles specifically, a recognised certification like CompTIA A+ and demonstrable, hands-on skills generally matter more than where you studied. CompTIA A+ is internationally recognised and does not require a UK qualification.

I already have IT experience or qualifications from India or another country, will UK employers recognise this?

Often yes, but it needs to be presented in UK terms and alongside a UK-recognised certification. UK employers respond to CVs structured around specific, named achievements and credentials they recognise, so real experience described in unfamiliar terms can be undervalued even when it is genuinely strong.

I currently work as a nurse or healthcare professional, can I move into IT?
